Find your nearest library

You can see all the Milton Keynes Libraries on a map and when you click on one, you can see a list of what’s on offer at that library and the opening times.

How can I join the library?

Anyone can become a member of the library whether you live in Milton Keynes or not. There is no age limit and registration is free. Join at any library and your card is valid at all of our libraries.

There are different categories of membership but all you need to do to join the library is bring along some form of ID which shows your name (like a bank card) when you next visit one of the libraries.

You can also join online by completing the online form. You’ll be given a temporary borrower number which allows you to start borrowing digital books, audiobooks and magazines immediately. When you next visit a library, you’ll need to bring some form of ID and you’ll be given your library card

How does it all work?

Libraries are for everyone. You can use any library without being a member, but it is free to join and your library card will let you do more.

Libraries have study and rest spaces, books (both fiction and fact books) for adults, teens and children, regular clubs and activities (like storytimes and reading groups), art and information exhibitions and displays, computers and WiFi, printers and photocopiers and photocopiers (charges apply), digital resources like Naxos Music or Which? Online and special events for children during school holidays.

If you want to borrow books, you need to have a library card. Books are loaned for 4 weeks before you need to renew them. You can renew books online, by telephone or at any library up to 4 times. Adult books have overdue fines but children’s books don’t.

You can browse the library catalogue for books and reserve books if there’s a specific one you want. There is a charge for reserving adult books but not children’s books.

You can manage your account online and see any books you already have and when they are due back and renew them.

Do you have eBooks and audiobooks?

With your library membership number you can borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines for free using the Libby or BorrowBox apps. Visit the digital books page to learn more. You can also use the PressReader app to borrow newspapers from around the world.

Do you have clubs and things to do?

We have lots of groups and clubs that meet at the library for different activities. The best way to find out what we have to offer is to visit the library events web page. We have activities for both adults and children and wherever possible the events are free.

I worry that everyone needs to be quiet.

We welcome everyone at the libraries. We are not spaces where you need to worry about being quiet. We love that we are safe and inviting places where you can meet and enjoy everything the libraries have to offer.

There are quiet study spaces but in the children’s library in particular, we want everyone to feel comfortable and have fun and that often means noise! We only ask for consideration of other library users.

How can I find out more?

The best place to find up to date information is on the library website. If you’re visiting one of the libraries, we’re happy to answer any questions you may have and are ready to help with whatever you need.

We also post daily on Facebook and Instagram so watch our pages for real time notices and information.

How can I contact you?

If you’d like to phone us, you can call 01908 254050 during the Central Library opening hours. All email enquiries should be made to library.enquiries@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
